I would like to share my personal opinion with you about yesterday’s rerun of Derren Brown’s TV program ‘The Heist‘ . This program was aired originally about two years ago and yesterday was the first time I’d seen it.
In a nutshell, Derren Brown persuades some people (’normal’ ones like you and I) to steal £100,000 in a bank robbery. He does this is via different NLP techniques over the course of a few meetings with this group of people. Watching this I was on the edge of my seat and I heard myself saying, “He is very good at what he does!” Recently I watched some clip on YouTube where he’s at the dog races and I was laughing out loud because of the comedy value it serves.
Now, here’s the double-edged sword in my opinion. As much as I feel it’s a wonderful way of getting more of you to realise that there’s a lot more going on than you’re consciously aware of I also believe the drawback of the entertainment aspect is one of the reasons that NLP is still stuck with a big image issue.
It could just be me, or is there more to all this NLP business besides comedy entertainment?
